Do you feel hopeless?

Let’s take a trip back in time.

The year is 27 AD and you are fishing on the Sea of Galilee. All of a sudden, you see a man flailing his arms on the shoreline trying to get your attention. You squint to get a clearer picture of who this person is and then you recognize the face–it is Jesus. At that moment, you hear him shouting, “Come follow me!” You quickly calculate the cost of leaving everything to follow this man, but decide it’s either now or never.

At first you are a little unsure of what this man is about, but as you watch, you see the unimaginable. People that have been paralyzed since birth now walk. Individuals blind and deaf have had their senses restored. Food has been multiplied before your very eyes. You’ve seen the miraculous. But that’s not it. This man Jesus is the most fearless person you’ve ever met. He doesn’t shake or tremble or run away. And yet he is gentle and loving to those who need it the most. He doesn’t care about societal or cultural norms. He breaks through all of those to love.

It doesn’t stop there as you see him do the physically impossible. You’ve seen him walk on water and at a single word from his mouth, storms disappear. For the last 3 years, your world, your reality has been radically changed by this man, Jesus.

He told you that he was the Messiah, the son of God, the Savior of the world and you believed him. Why would you not? Anyone after seeing the miracles mentioned above and interacting with Jesus would surely believe as the evidence is too convincing.

Then one day, everything changes.

Jesus is arrested. You witness his public trial. He becomes a laughingstock. A joke. Everyone wants him dead, but you think to yourself, “Wait, this is the Savior of the world. How can this be?” He’s beaten, lashed and pinned on a cross. You can’t watch; the pain is too much.

And then after all the punishment, pain and hurt, Jesus died. The man you saw do miracles, defy physics, fearlessly love the least in the world–the one you believed to be the true Messiah, the Savior of the world–just died. Life, the very thing he brought to countless people, left his body. They took that body and put it in a grave. Society said, “Good riddance. This revolutionary is disposed of.”

You can’t believe what just happened. You are still in shock. You and all your friends go home, no one says a word to anyone else. Everyone falls asleep. Then you wake up the next morning. For a second, you don’t remember the horrific events of the previous day. And then it hits you like a sledgehammer. It wasn’t a nightmare. Jesus is actually dead. The man you believed is dead!

Where do you go? What do you do? How do you wrap your mind around this event? How do you process all of this? Who do you cry out to? How hopeless do you feel?

I can only imagine that that Saturday was horrifically depressing. All hope was dead.

But here is the glorious good news of Jesus. In history’s darkest moment, in the most hopeless time, Jesus rose from the dead and He can never die again! He defeated the grave proving that He actually is who He said He is–the Savior of the world!

You may be in an unimaginably hopeless situation. It may feel like you are in a deep dark pit with no way out. Take heart, because if history is any indication, there is always hope. There is hope because the tomb is empty. That is why we celebrate Easter. Jesus, the hope of the world, is alive and He can and will bring resurrection to any and every area of your life.

Just ask Him.

Be blessed.
