Seeds are like nature’s version of USB memory sticks. Think about it. Seeds, like memory sticks, contain information and instructions on how to build something. In this case, that something happens to be the plant the seed came from. Even further, each seed stores the potential to create more fruit, which creates more seeds, thereby continuing the growth process.
To illustrate this, let’s say we have a single apple seed. We plant it in the ground and several years later an apple tree develops and starts to bear fruit. A mature dwarf apple tree will, on average, produce between 3 and 6 bushels of fruit, where one bushel equals 42 pounds. If we take the average number of bushels, 4.5, and multiplying it with 42, we find that our dwarf apple tree has produced a total of 189 pounds of apples. In order to figure out how many apples this is, we take 189 pounds and divide it by the average weight of an apple, .33 lbs, which gives us 572 apples for our dwarf tree. We assume that the average number of seeds within each one of our 572 apples is 6 and multiply the two numbers together, giving us our final total. We have 3,432 seeds!
What started as one lonely seed has multiplied to over 3,000 seeds! This is what it means to be fruitful and this is what God desires from our lives.
I believe God has planted many seeds in the soil of our life. Seeds of hope, joy, love and peace, just to name a few, are all growing within us working to create the same fruit those seeds came from. Before long, we find ourselves in situations that in the past caused despair, sadness, fear or anxiety to stir within us and now, we enjoy the fruits of the seeds God has planted in our life.
The best part about this is that it’s not about performance as God makes the seeds grow. My role is to make sure I stay close to the source of water that is Jesus!
Read through Jeremiah 17:7-8 below and allow God to speak to you on how you can stay close to Him.
“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,
whose confidence is in him.
8 They will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit.”
Be blessed!
