It’s been raining almost non-stop for the past two days. As a result, a ton of water has accumulated in the drainage basin near my home. This drainage basin functions as a man-made, concrete river that funnels water through different areas of our development. I stepped onto our balcony this afternoon to take a look outside and I noticed the high water level flowing in this river. Being someone who is highly observant, I also noticed that at the beginning of the river, the water was flowing slower than it was in the middle.
As I thought about it, I figured out why there was a difference in speed. The beginning of the river was wider, which allowed a larger volume of water to enter the river. However, as the water flowed, the river became narrower. In order for the same volume of water to pass through the narrow section of the river, the speed increased. This process is captured in the formula of Swiss mathematician and physicist Daniel Bernoulli. The formula states that in order for there to be conservation of energy within the system (the river) the water flowing through the narrow section experiences a decrease in internal pressure that increases the velocity of the water. All in all, the same amount of water covers the same distance, however, in a less amount of time.
There are times in life when I feel squeezed. It can be demands at work, conflict with a friend or even the lies of the enemy. All of these things come without any warning and bring about anxiety and fear that constricts me. The whole experience, before seeing the river outside my home, was uncomfortable and depressing. But now, I see that when I am squeezed His living water flows through me faster, bringing more healing, more nourishment and more life.
I have a feeling that all of us have, at one point or another, felt squeezed. Unfortunately, it’s part of life, but it doesn’t have to be a miserable place. I believe it is possible to be squeezed and yet not lose our joy, peace or love. We can be squeezed on the outside, but on the inside we know the truth of God and our internal pressure decreases therefore enabling God’s living water to flow powerfully through us.
Maybe you feel squeezed right now. Remind yourself on the truth of God and allow His river to flow mightily.
Be Blessed.
