A Mozzarella Moment

My wife and I love having people over for dinner! It’s truly a joy of ours to cook food and spend time eating it with family and friends. It’s always a time of connection, celebration and deepening of relationships.

A couple of months ago, we scheduled to have some friends come over for dinner. Liane (my wife) was at home cooking (she’s a lot better at it than I am) and I was in a supermarket picking up some last minute items to make a Caprese Salad, one of my wife’s favorite appetizers. It’s a really simple dish. Just slice some fresh mozzarella and tomatoes, pluck a handful of basil leaves, organize them together and drizzle some olive oil or balsamic vinegar and there you have it!

Before we get too far along, I was still in the supermarket and I was stuck with a difficult decision. There I stood, starring at two different types of mozzarella. For the most part, the two mozzarellas looked the same, but one was priced around $4 and the other was priced around $7. I had no idea what the difference was or if I would even notice a distinction in taste between the two. As I stood there in contemplation, I made a mental comparison and thought about what God would do.

In what seemed like a spit second, the following went through my mind. God doesn’t hold back when He gives to us. Yes, there might be a delay in us praying for something and having that prayer answered, but when God gives to us, He always gives us His best. Everything He gives us is the best He has to offer. He doesn’t do mediocre or average.

With this truth on the forefront of my mind, I reached into the shelf and grabbed the more expensive mozzarella. It may sound silly, but I didn’t want to hold back in blessing our friends for dinner. God hasn’t held anything back from me. Matter of fact, He gave me His son. How could I not give the best to our friends?

How have you seen God give to you? It may be really difficult to see the blessings, but I promise you, they are there. Ask the Lord to show you the blessings He’s given you. I’m sure it will touch you profoundly that the next time you’re in your “mozzarella moment” you’ll want to bless whoever God places in your life!
